General bounce back from last week
All major indexes made significant gains earlier this week but cut back by Friday. The Dow went over 10800 at midweek on enthusiasm for the large European bailout package then scaled back yesterday and today on renewed worries about Europe's finances.
The DJIA gained 241 points from last Friday to finish today at10620.16, a 2.3% boost. The NASDAQ composite climbed 81 points to end at 2346.85, nearly a 3.6% rise for the week. Although 13 companies gained in the 20 Solar Stocks Index, the index lost less than a point to finish at 358.19.
Now that Germany's very generous solar feed in tariff is being officially cut back this summer, many of the larger panel makers see their stocks in flux. The California Solar Initiative, once the flagship of all U.S. solar incentive programs, is seeing success as a double sword. As residential and commercial PV system installations exploded last year, rebates have triggered down significantly. Despite continuing low panel prices, rebates for PG&E, SCE and SDG&E customers don't amount to much so sales are slowing.
Solar winners for the week include Entech Solar, Akeena Solar, ECD and Suntech. Losers included First Solar, LDK Solar and SunPower.
